The gunblade

I love the new gunblade! :D The new PSM says that you are able to change from Guns to Sword in battle! In the trailer we see the change, but theres no HUD so thats obviously an FMV or something...but changing in-game, thats pretty cool. Hopefully not in a menu >_<

yah i agree with it not having it in a menu. ive seen other versions of gunblades in anime but this one is at the top of my list.:thumbsup:

Mebbes you could have one side of the shoulder buttons for one gunblade and the other side for the other gunblade. :cunning:

Yeah. :cunning: What do shoulder buttons usually do in FF? :blink: Nothing out of battle i dont think. In battle its usually Flee.

Point is they don't really use them so they could have lots of new functions. There is probably going to be a lot of new things to do in FFXIII and we're going to need all the buttons on the control.

I don't like calling it a gunblade because it reminds me too much of FFVII, but because I can't think of anything else to call I suppose "Gunblade" will do. I think it is cool how they use it in the trailer. There is always a possibility that that was actually in game and not an FMV. I have my doubts though.

Yea, I know what you mean about it being called a Gunblade. Does Square actually call it a gunblade :blink:? It looks more like a switchblade....but it has to have a cooler name than that :P

i remember on wikipedia it was stated that Yazoo's gun wasn't a gunblade. So it is a big possiblity that this isn't one as well.

It was just a gun that he used to block a sword. o.O You cant say "why didnt it break then?" because kadaj's sword would have snapped after being beat with Cloud's. xD

This is true... I haven't seen the trailer recently, but does "Lightning" actually use the sword as a sword or is it used to block another sword merely as an item of defense?

She uses it as a sword for most of the trailer :P She only uses it as a gun for about 4 seconds not including the machine gun she steals off a guard at the begining.

I guess it depends on the situation - it would be pointless to use a sword when the enemy is far and the gun when it is about to eat you. Switching from one to another costs a few but very expencive seconds.
If she is/ has been some kind of soldier she might be able to use many different weapons beside the "gun-, trigger- or something else- blade". Like whatever comes into hand (stealing).
There was some sort of box hanging from her belt where to put the ?-blade into but there isn't one with the actionfigure? Did they took it off or was it unnecessary to add on the figure?

It doesnt' follow the trend of the term gunblade. Which is a sword with a non-working gun that once the trigger is pulled; vibrations are sent through the blade to cause extra damage.

With her current weapon you should be able to switch fast rack up combos with. Shoot and attack sounds solid.

i'd say from it's appearance in game shots and it's look in the trailer, Lightning's weapon would be more like a gun-sword / sword-gun. i think it's "default" mode is gun and with a switch, a blade extends from (i guess) underneath and above the gun's trigger, along the length of the shaft.

i think also that her sword would be more for dispatching bosses and such, and her gun will be more suitable for skirmishes and the like ^_^

So this weapon.....I saw a pic and trailer that it was shooting something different. Wasn't a bullet though. Was it the one that fired the Fire spell( forgot it. I think it was firaga) during the trailer after Lightning's overclock was about to end?

Just because it doesn't behave exactly like the gunblades seen in FF8 doesn't mean that Lightning's weapon can't also be called a gunblade - it is simply a variation on an existing design. Seriously, it is a combination sword and gun - which equals a gunblade as far as I'm concerned. They have just taken a weapon from a previous game and modified it a bit, in the same way that they do with other game elements - are you going to say that the Shiva we see in FFXIII isn't really Shiva because in the previous games she didn't transform into a motorbike?.

Until Square Enix reveal an official name for the weapon, the name "gunblade" will suffice, as it is currently the most accurate description.

for your example though: Stone, water, and aero magic in FFXI is different from previous FF's. They work like how Bolt/thunder, Ice/blizzard, and fire worked in many FF's before it. Stone wouldn't be the same same Stone. Yes I believe this Shiva fits just like the FFXII Shiva fits in my book.

I agree. Even if it's nothing like any previous gunblade models, you can't deny Square drew the idea of it from them. Even if it hasn't been officially dubbed a "gunblade", calling it one for now is acceptable.

It really isnt a gunblade, simply for the fact that the gun and the blade doesnt work together, so i agree with desi... but calling it a gunblade for now its acceptable.

I've read the first, fifth and last pages, so if this has already been said forgive me... People were talking about the blade transforming into a gun by pressing a shoulder button or another button, but in the trailer, the gun attack has a different name, what means it will be a different command that we'll need to imput in the combo. The attack is called "shoot" and can be seen while Lightning is performing the firaga.
