Note: Jeux France had a wrong translation of the interview, I happened to find the proper translation in Gamefront, thus fixing the mistakes. Sorry for the wrong title.
/End Note

In a recent interview given to "Nintendo Dream", Shinji Hashimoto commented on Final Fantasy XIII and said the following:

"The entire Fabula Nova Crystallis project will have the same world view and last approx. 10 years, which is a long period, like in the Star Wars saga or The Lord of the Rings."

I guess the lifespan of next-gen RPG's is going be amazing.

Although it's not FF13 related, I'll post the rest of the interview and more to those that are interested:

Think that sounds interesting? Hear this: Shinji Hashimoto commented on Square Enix's upcoming Wii title, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, which we have almost no info on, and said that the game will make full use of the Wii Controller. He then smiled and said that "Square Enix and Nintendo fans should really look forward to the upcoming Square Enix Party 2007 on May 12-13."

More pieces of information about Dragon Quest IX were given to us by Japanese magazine Gamelabo that claims you will be able to transfer your raised monster from Nintendo DS towards the Wii.

Last but not least, Japanese magazine Famitsu has posted its expected release dates for quite a few Square Enix games:

· Final Fantasy Tactics A2: The Sealed Grimoire: July, 2007
· Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates: August, 2007
· Dragon Quest IX : Protectors of the Sky: November, 2007

You know where its from, I realised from reading the comments that people dislike me giving the same link everytime .

I saw the news earlier on FF&KH Blog and it isn't really anything new :P We were already told after E3 the FNC compilation is going to last a decade. I don't think they mean a solid decade of just FFXIII though, more of an FFVII thing where theres a break in the middle of the compilation. Thanks though!

Wait a sec, 10 years? His he saying the game will last 10 years? As in, the characters grow 10 years older?

EDIT: Oh you mean the compilation, I thought so :P

Ey, kit! You were right! He did post. Your using your scary psy power again!!

Ten years. The same game lasts ten years. It could be it like FFX where we suddenly jumpstarts 1000 years in the future with sin or two years later with FFXII sit its not that intresting. But if we like halfway into the game goes forward in time its different.

I don't think it means that. Its talking about the complilation as a whole. As seeing as the only similarity in the games is that they are based in the same world. I would assume they mean:

Final Fantasy XIII: Based in Year 2000 (Example)
Final Fantasy Versus XIII: Based in Year 2010 (Example)

Ofcourse as seeing as there are going to be 7 other games for the complilation. Its anyones guess for the time difference.

Well they said at the begining that Versus is in Present day while XIII is in the distant future, obviously on seperate worlds. As none of the games are related I don't think thats what they mean by a 10 year project. I think they mean this:

1997 - FFVII
1998 - FFVIII
1999 - -FFIX
2002 - FFX
2005/6 - FFVII:AC
2006 - FFVII: DOC
2007 - FFVII:CC

The ones in bold are part of the FFVII compilation obviously and its releases have been spanned out of a decade. I think they mean the same kind of thing with FFXIII with the titles being release over a long span of time but other games like FFXIV possibly being released in between.

there will be 3 more FNC games (6 in all) and they all take place in the same Universe, not world..

what they mean by spanning 10 years is..well 10 years before the compilation is complete (all 6 entries are released)

If I were Square, I would wait till the original FF13 is released and see the responses on what people thought of it. THEN I would make the whole thing into a compilation.
