View Full Version : What if Lightning was a lesbian?

I would fap
just kidding
OK seriously now, I think it would be a pretty bold move in the series since this game is supposed to revolutionise the series and stuff
the theme of the game is about the people who resist the world or something and having a gay main character should add more depth to the whole thing
and it should add some pretty sweet eye candy too <__<
opinions?

LOLz at this thread.
I'm not even going to post my opinion because the chances of it happening are VERY low. Only when 75% of the world is faggot, its a possibility.

I dont think they would do it because too many people are against it. Alot of retards might not play the game because of it. It sounds stupid I know, and I wouldn't think like this at all but I've seen a load of people on GameSpot and places bitching that the lead is a female. Pathetic really.

how about being bisexual? this should be more accepted

I'm sure we already discussed this somewhere  Oh well. I doubt Square would take the leap in making Lightning gay exactly as Dante said. A part of their audience is probably still homophobic and they might not want to take a risk losing any of their customers. No doubt there would be "Mothers against Final Fantasy XIII" as well if they did this because Square would be "corrupting" their children .
Also Ragnarok, using words like that still counts as discrimination so this is a formal warning.

the closest square ever got to lesbian was that leblanc and yuna massage orgy XDDDD
I think it isn't the right time to be able to impliment anything even suggesting a gay relationship\sexual tesion. unfortunatly our soscity itself finds it hard to accept in something like a game which would be wide spread,

Square isn't Rockstar, so it will never happen. I really don't have anything against gay people, but i think FFXIII don't need this type of story to catch the attention of FF fans. When square starts making games like GTA then i'll stop playing them...

ok...i think it would be really weird that Square decides to make Lighting a lesbian....because I mean all FF games have their male/female couple and to have a lesbian as the main protagonist would really be a drastic change
I hope square doesn't do this

You can't have same sex marriage in FFXI even Galka who are genderless actually. So there is your answer.

Lol, I remember doing this argument.
IMO, I think it would cool to have a lesbian character. I mean in Japan there's anime like "Strawberry Panic!", "Maria-ga Miteru", magazines (a collection of comics) called "Yuri hime", etc. I don't see what the problem would be when a lot of their fans are in Japan anyway. Also considering that Japan has a history where homosexual men were seen as the "purest form of love". Also they DON'T NEED to make it completely obvious. They could've just give out little hints and leave those who can't figure it out alone.
But... either way, I will always have Doujinshis (Fanbooks), Fanart and Fanfiction to
make me feel happy.
(PS: once more IMHO, boyxgirl is getting too old. At least add some love triangle of some sort, it's always too obvious takes away all of the "guessing")

I suppose like DragonFly says, the relationships in Final Fantasy's are all almost the same. That's possibly why they didn't do one in XII because it was getting really cliche. A gay relationship could be something new they could try out. So far I'm not seeing a relationship between Lightning and the new Blond guy, then again we haven't even heard them speak XD.
Also Cloud Rulez, don't reply to a thread just because it has a new post in it. What you said made no sense.

Why can't people say that a FICTIONAL character is gay, straight or bi? They're not real people, they're not going to walk out the screen to kill you for saying that. Since Cloud is FICTIONAL, why can't fans make their own FICTIONAL pairing. Since the pairing in the game is also FICTIONAL.

Yeah if they did that I personally would be ticked. It would kind of ruin the game for me. Since I loved the last games for their love stories, and doing that would make it really hard to connect with the character.
Btw I think if she was bi that would be worse than gay. In my opinion.

You need to grow some balls and some tolerance. How the hell would their shitty love stories be ruined if it isn't between a feminine male and a girl?
You can't connect huh? Her sexual preference (not like they have sex in FF anyway) wouldn't even change the way the romance played out. Since we know Kitase and Nojima kind of suck at showing hatred to a group of people gay relationships wouldn't even be seen as such a "bad" thing in Cocoon or Pulse.

Agreed. Final fantasy charecters barely kiss anyway (not that should make you uncomfortable, if it does, you have issues my friend). Gay relationships could be more interesting to explore if Coccoon really is a religious dystopia as I'm assuming.
I'd see Pulse as being more accepting prehaps.

Yes it would make me feel uncomfortable I personally think being gay is unnatural and kind of weird. I don't hate gay people but I do think being gay has gotten to become kind of ridiculous in todays culture. There is no reason for it and a some people that are gay are gay for the sake of being gay, which I think is kind of silly. If they honestly have a good reason to be gay fine I won't argue, but being gay for no reason is just dumb.
Dream Machine
Aug 09 2007, 11:17 AM
Who on Earth is gay for the sake of being gay? And yes our culture is so saturated with portrayls of gay/bisexual/lesbian indivduals isn't it? What between the repugnant Will & Grace and.... erm oh sorry I can't think of anything else.
I wasn't aware you needed a reason to be gay, they missed that part out in sex ed.
Read up on an essay/event called "Against Nature?" and you'll see that bi and homosexuality occurs in nearly every animal you could think of, MORE so in more social animals (like humans). Homophobia is actually unnatural. Heres a link to a short version of the essay.
http://www.bidstrup.com/sodomy.htm
Anyway this is slightly beside the point, a new take on the love story is needed. the ones before were ok, but it could become tired, alternative sexualitys would give the makers whole new avenues to explore.

The fact that you like those love stories are proof enough that you have little taste in the topic of romance. I mean like wow did you love the relationship of Squall and Rinoa? I am not a gay basher I just don't like the fact that it's so encouraged in modern society. I don't hate anyone I am annoyed with the people that encourage them.
And if you are serious about the black thing you are dumber than I thought. Being gay is completely different than being black or something like that. It's a lifestyle/choice not a skin color.
Dream Machine
Aug 09 2007, 09:15 PM
Nice you completely ignored all my points :D
Choice? Why would anyone choose to be discriminated against constantly, to be hated and pushed aside. To be seen as immoral, different and weird? To put themselves at risk of being beaten-up or worse?
Who chooses to be gay? In Iran you get beheaded for being gay. Is it encouraged as you so sensitivly put it there? Of course not, yet people still are gay. Nothing in the modern world 'encourages' homosexuality. Quite the opposite.
Desi
Aug 09 2007, 09:39 PM
I never played FFVIII. I was referring to X. And X wasn't much better. Unless you get your romance fix from videogames and not movies or books I don't see how such a badly written love story keeps you engaged.
I am not a gay basher I just don't like the fact that it's so encouraged in modern society. I don't hate anyone I am annoyed with the people that encourage them. Most haters of homosexuals say they aren't. Sure it is encouraged. I mean, having people protest against your rights as a living breathing person is encouraging.
And if you are serious about the black thing you are dumber than I thought. Being gay is completely different than being black or something like that. It's a lifestyle/choice not a skin color.I was using that as an example to get the point through your thick close-minded head. Your hate because of who they like is no different then hating someone because of their skin (or bone structure if that is your excuse).
The way entertainment is protrayed now, being black is a lifestyle. One filled with poor education and lack of basic needs in communities. Example: lack of banks, supermarkets, and after school programs.

I'll just lay it out.
In response to the thread: I personally would be bothered if Lightning was a lesbian.
In response to Dante: I don't HATE people that are gay. It IS a choice/lifestyle that goes against MY morals and beliefs, I won't hate or put down everyone that is gay. However I'm bothered by the fact that something like it is so common in our society. There is no good reason for people to be gay that I can see, and it's obviously not the way we were designed. I am anti gay to a point, but I haven't got an ax to grind. It's just against what I believe.
In response to Dream machine:Maybe so. But then why are people gay? This is my interpretation of it all. Maybe I'm mistaken on how common it is, but it's still against what I believe, and that's what it all comes down to is what you believe.
I'm not going to argue a whole lot on this point with you two. You two and I have such different beliefs and opinions in general, that neither of us will convince the other. That is simply my opinion on the matter and I will just have to agree to disagree on this point. And I'm sorry for acting somewhat immature in my earlier posts.

I'm bothered from the statement you have just said about "being gay is a choice/lifestyle". Not to mention that even the APA (American Psychological Association) have also stated themselves that it is NOT a choice. Are you trying to tell me that you CHOOSE to be heterosexual? I don't care about your morals and beliefs, it doesn't justify the fallacy in that statement. It is far from encouraged in society, but merely more accepted (thus it is why more people are "coming out"). Being homophobic is one thing, but that doesn't mean you can make up crap.

Nearly all people ave no choice in the matter.
There is an extremly small minority of people who say they are bisexual and more rarely gay and are lying, this is called bisexual chic and is in no way representitive of the real GLBT community. Don't confuse them. Being gay isn't a choice.
Also on the whole thing of lifestyle, I don't have a 'gay lifestyle'. I like playing games, I like making movies and chilling, hanging out with friends all all the other crap. I tried to force my opinions on you all and said you're wrong I'm right. I don't want to be that kind of person, it's not my place to MAKE you believe my way is right or anything. For me to say all of that was arrogant and stupid and I apologize.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone and I'll try not to throw out baseless opinions in the future. No hard feelings?
It's ok, I understand that if you don't know certain types of people, certain ideas can spring up that are baseless. At least you're mature enough to admit that :D
Oh yes! Desi and Dream Machine teamwork at its finest.
Now to get people back to the true importance. FFVIII is shit when disc three starts. Lets get to it!
 Wooo!

Ok, thank you. I'll try not to do it again. :)

I don't like cookies. Too sweet. Rots my teeth. Ever had vitamin C supplements? Now that's good candy. :cookie: <--- They should make him the "Vitamin C Supplement Monster" His diet consists of Vitamin C pills and oranges. He eats by day and fights scurvy by night.
I didn't bother reading the entire thread (too long) so I'll just say this: IF LIGHTNING WAS A LESBIAN TETSUYA WOULD BE FIRED, CASTRATED, AND BURNED BY HIS FANS. Which is why it would never happen. I mean, the majority of the female FF players love to see romantic heterosexual relationships between the hero/heroine and whoever they have the straight relationshipt with. If Lightning was lesbian they'd all be like "OMG WTF A LESBIAN PROTAGONIST" Especially since there's such a huge hype over FFXIII, I doubt Square/Tetsuya would jepeordize millions of potential buyers by making the protagonist a lesbian. Because, there are a lot more straight FF buyer than homosexual ones.
Although, (god i'm contradicitng myself again someone stop me) a lesbian lightning might attract a lot of straight guys. UltimaMasamune for example.
