No more FF for Xbox?

June 5, 2007 - Looking for more Final Fantasy following the Xbox 360 port of Final Fantasy XI? Then you're going to have to look to a different next generation system. A Square Enix executive has disclosed to Japan's Nikkei BP that the company currently has no plans for Final Fantasy games on the 360.

Noting that the PS3 is getting Final Fantasy XIII, the website asked Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto if the Wii or Xbox 360 will also be getting games in the series. "For the Wii, we have FF Crystal Chronicles in production," replied Hashimoto. "As for FF on the Xbox 360, it's currently a completely blank page."

Strong words from Hashimoto, although perhaps if everyone goes out and buys Last Remnant (that includes you!), Square Enix will have a change of heart.

I just read this on N4G and I think I'm gonna post it as news. It a) Proves no 360 port of XIII is in development and b) that no other unannounced games in the compilation are being made for 360 so far.

Sorry but it isn't a 360 forum so you have to expect it. The 360 is fine for me but the desperation of some of the Xbox fanboys for FFXIII to appear on 360 is so annoying. They base their facts on Capcom porting DMC4. You'll notice I posted that it is possible they could develop other titles in the future but they have none planned yet on the front page to.

LOL! I'm sorry but even though I'm a PS3 fan a lot of that is pretty flawed. I don't think Xion has control over 360 fanboys XD If he does let's make a peace treaty. The PS2 also sold out everywhere...mostly because of shortages but it still did extremely well and so did the 360. No doubting it though the PS3 will catch up 2008 :P

Don't worry I don't think you're a fanboy Xion ;) People do get caught up in the console wars far to much and it does piss me off when a 360 fan posts on a PS3 YouTube video that it's failing. I rarely was ever put in a total threat where the bow was life or death. so the bow aiming has no affect on me. The combat didn't draw me in at all so I don't feel that it is worth it. Shield bashing with the nunchuku drove me crazy when trying to perform headsplitter. So i just like the classic gamecube controller better.

Well PS3 Wii and DS are all Japanese consoles. Like Kitmitsu said they obviously put Japan first and base alot of choices on Japan. They will probably put multiplatforms on 360, if The Last Remnant sells well they will probably use Unreal Engine 3 again.

Last Remnant will prolly not boost 360 sales in japan, since all japp's are waiting for FFXIII and a drop in PS3 prices, so why bother getting another console with no almost no games that japp's like? Square Enix has clarified that recent comments made by Shinji Hashimoto regarding Final Fantasy on Xbox 360 were referring to the company's current plans.

Japan's Nikkei BP quoted the executive producer as saying, "As for Final Fantasy on the Xbox 360, it's currently a completely blank page." Some reports interpreted this to mean that the series will never again appear on Microsoft's next-gen console.

However, a spokesperson for Square Enix told GamesIndustry.biz, "Hashimoto-san was talking about the current situation" - which would suggest his comments shouldn't be interpreted as forward-looking.

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter said he expects the next Final Fantasy to appear on PlayStation 3 exclusively - but observed that Square Enix will face a tough decision.

"The series has always been single console and given the Xbox 360 sell through in Japan, it would be hard to put the next Final Fantasy instalment on the 360 only," he told GI.biz.

"Square Enix faces a dilemma: put the next game on the 360 only and alienate Japanese fans, depart with tradition and make it multi-platform, or go with PS3 as an exclusive and deal with the backlash from the west.

"I view Square Enix as a tradition-bound company, and expect the last alternative to be chosen," Pachter concluded.

Square Enix recently announced that RPG The Last Remnant is currently in development for both PS3 and Xbox 360, and will launch simultaneously in the US and Japan.


So it seems that FFXIII will indeed stay on PS3, but for future titles who knows?

Yeah my friend is on his fourth or fifth PS2. His brother went through two and he is on his third. All in the same house. I got mine at launch as well October 26th 2000. It has problems now though as it randomly resets and was having bad laser (disc read error) for the past four years.

shit my semi-launch 360 still works but I know they have a high failure rate like the ps2 before them.

it sold enough, they weren't expecting huge sales from it because the game is so old. It also is a MMO and console people aren't use to paying monthly fee's to enjoy such an experience.

Sorry to be really picky but actually there are more FF games on PS3 than 360 because you can play all the old ones through backward compatibility....well, if you have a US or japanese PS3 anyway - the PAL PS3 backward compatibility still isn't up to scratch from what I hear.

The point is, Square is just greedy. They could release FFIV on Xbox Live Arcade (or PS Network) and charge about £5 for it, but they wont because they know they can release it on GBA for £25 and then do another remake on the DS and charge £25-£30.

You would think that releasing the old games on Live Arcade would help them, particularly in Japan, but they just want to exploit their back catalogue for as much profit as they can.

They was already asked this same question for the Virtual Console. They said they wouldn't because fans still love to buy their remakes. It is a money thing added to the fact that most of the fans are very stupid.

Although what with the way things are in Japan at the moment I'd say a FFXIII DS spin-off game was more likely.
