The series definitely starts going downhill after epy 25 (not telling cuz of mega spoilerz), but I recommend you keep watching if you want to know how it all ends.

yeah its 37 but if you include the special that aired in japan, its 38. damn specials. but i heard its from ryuks perspective from the beginning to the end which is pretty cool.^_^

I finished watching it a week ago and I have to admit that Light is one the best villains ever... polite, intelligent and calm on the outside and evil, sadistic, persistent and a total nutjob on the inside

This is the 2nd anime I finish(after Samurai Champloo) but I'm sure it's not the last... now I'm hooked

I don't see what's wrong with it. The story is new, the characters are original, and the concept is brilliant. There's no reason to not like Death Note.

For starters, the story is far from new. Jigoku Shoujo has been there and done that, only instead of a notebook it had a messageboard.
Characters aren't that original either in my opinion.. L is just your typical emo that so girls finally have someone new they can say is theirs instead of constantly shouting how much they love Sasuke.

IMO, what makes death note so interesting isn't the single plot or the characters itself, but the dialogs and the twists in the story... the question in death note is: how its done, and not whats done.

Aside from all the drama here, has anyone watched the live-action movie? It starts that guy who was in the two Battle Royale movies. I saw a copy of Death Note at this videostore in Chinatown, I didnt bother to grab it since I knew nothing about it.

Well to end the argument...mostly every story has been done before. Hardly any story is truely unique. Every story always has the same type of characters, the serious one, the emo one, the evil, the funny one, ect... It's all about how you deliver and present those type of characters in a story. Deathnote presents it in a very unique way, with excellent twists (You rarely see a main character die in the middle of a story). And as a side note: L is not an emo character (but that is his position in the story)...he suffers from a mental disorder, which leaves him without any emotion....so he's not your typical depressed emo character. Now, @Kira, you don't really need to state proof of why you don't like something, everybody has different tastes .People who like the same thing, may like them for different reasons...the same can be said about people who dislike something. So just respect Inferno187's opinion...she may just not like the theme presented in Deathnote.
