I was reading the about the characters in this site(not in the forums) and it says that Lightning's social status can be determinded by the 2 yellow marks on her left shoulder. Does anyone have any idea about it?

In an interview (can't remember when), Toriyama said that it displayed her rank. I think from that we can guess she was involved with some sort of military prior to her losing her memory. :)

I really hope the team read Brave New World before writing the story. If theres anything about enforced social status in Cocoon I think I'll wet myself with excitement.

As far as I know in most countries 2 lines is a pretty low military rank, I wonder why they chose that instead of a star or something

I really hope this isn't another memory loss scenario, because that is one of the biggest RPG cliches ever. I kind of like the idea that it's her choice to hide her true name, because that would at least be a bit more original.

I heard that shes just hiding it too I think.

I'd like that she did lose her memory, but before the narrative begins learnt everything about her old life but simply doesn't care. No loyalty to Coccoon and all that.

Of course its just a part of her outfit, but a part that is integrated with the character past, we can call this "design loyalty"... someone could do a research and see if these marks means something in real world military maybe

< In real world militar have ranks too...she is a militar or something like that so there...I don't recall memory loss..but I'm sure I read it at the main page

Very little information is known out about Lightning yet but Square-Enix has revealed that the two yellow stripes on the her left shoulder symbolise her Rank and Social status. This could mean she is or was a soldier at some point. Her armour also shows that she is some kind of combatant as seen in the E3 2006 trailer when she is fighting enemy soldiers.. Lightning's past is unclear at the moment because she is suffering from some form of amnesia.


There. This sort-of explains the yellow marks on her shoulder and the memory loss. I guess...:|

So.. uhh.. what were the suggestions?I guess we just have to wait until someone updates us about those two marks. It's looks like a clue to knowing more about Lightning's past. Are there other sites that can provide as with more answers?

They say that she lost her memory and was then turned into an exile and was sent down to Pulse but now she is fighting her way back up and is gaining those two makrs on her shoulder back.I think thats what I heard.

Lightning girl is sent on a mission by the "vicious" crystal of Pulse to destroy Cocoon and its crystal, the world that exiled her. The marks are the ranks she once had. Her amnesia is so-so. It was brought up that she just doesn't want to reveal her name to others. Obviously that means she is of pretty high rank, politician's daughter maybe? Yes, this has all been thrown around hundreds of times. Also, this paragraph has horrible structure.

Yeah I have read the amnesia part too, revealed in an interview sometime early this year or at the end of the previous one.
I'm not sure if she was too high ranked though. Considering she gains her strenght/powers from the 'vicious' Crystal, I would say she was probably low-mid rank and now when somebody finally recognizes her face they will be like "wtf steroids!"
