FFXIII Versus Characters Personality and Clothing

So, I haven't seen any threads specifically on characters such as Veruko or Shotgun Guy. Though, we are limited on information we do have fanart and reviews.

What do you guys think of them so far?

What do you guys think their personalities are like?

Do you like or dislike their designs?

What do you think their clothing will be changed to if at all?

What kind of relationship do they hold with the prince?

Don't know what that exactly means though. I heard she has a gloomy air with her... I hope she isn't... Emotional...

I guess the Prince is a quite person. He doesnt talk much. On the contrary, Shotgun guy seems to be a active guy. He's more friendly than Storm. And about the Scar Face Guy, maybe he's the same with the big guy from Advent Children movie (cant remember his name =.=). I think the driver is just like Storm. And for Veruko, I don't think that she will be a cheerful girl. Maybe she's even more serious than the Prince. From what I heard, she can fight, too. Her eyes can turn to violet...
For the newest character, I think he's a dangerous fighter. He can be the man in the robe...

I doubt that. If u visit Maiki's blog, she said that he didn't smile, or feel angry with the others. (Well, she looked at him like 1000 times ^^). It's just a rumor (...maybe not =.=). Yay, I think he is not a bad boy, too. But in the trailer: "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so"... He could be a complex character. And the game has dark theme on it. I have a bad feeling about this... But I still like him anyway^_^. Just hope he won't die >_<

I thought that the versus guy's clothes is a bit simple yet cool. Maybe I should thanks Nomura for creating such a awe.......some character... His personality is a bit gloomy i say.

But I ever think, the whole trailer we had known this far, he always had his face expressionles, but when I heard at the CLOUD DVD trailer, he had gasping a while and the camera (our view) was behind him, showing all the corpse lying on the stairs. I wonder how was his face when he was gasping like that.... SE hide us his face. Maybe they're too lazy to made expression change.

For shotgun guy, his personality much like Reno from Advent Children. An upbeat and impatience person. I never see any full body pic of him. And I like his shotgun.

Maybe you mean Rude. It's the big and bald one, rite? The one that always go everywhere wih Reno.
they're a bit similar, but I don't think they're alike. I bet he's like Steiner from FFIX much or like Wakka from FFX.

About the driver, I just think his personality is a hardworking and mature one. It said at maiki's blog when the scarface headlocking Shotgun one, his expression is like saying "geesh, how childish you are...." and he did try to drive as fast as he can when they're like running from something.
And I like his hair.

For Veruko, i didn't know much about her because I've got limited information about her.
I thought maybe she has royal blood line because her eyes changed too.

For the newest one (we HAVE TO give him a fan name), I said he's a bit dangerous... but he wears much alike like the prince's clothes. And also a weapon.

SE never confirm about the newest one. i dunno if he's a real chara of FFvsXIII or not.

I just like the heroine to be a quite person, but she is a good girl and a bit more mature. She can use sword, and even magic... And I hope the heroine will stay by the Prince's side...:nod:

Just on the topic of the protagonist, I think he's going to be quite serious, but I don't think he'll be a second Cloud. I thought I read somewhere that Lightning may be the one with more identity problems, and I find that rather Cloud-ish. I can't see the Versus protagonist spending the game vaguely chasing around a childhood hero or wondering about who he really is. I think he'll be more of a business man. The kind that gets done what needs to get done without stressing a lot about it. That's the impression I get from the trailers we've seen.

His life may suck, but I can't see him getting depressed/emo about it. I think he's the kind of person who believes that that's just the way the world is, and that niether tears or sorrow will do anything to help you. That's why he goes out and kills all the enemy soldiers instead. That helps more. Sort of a practical guy. :D

The japanese appear to have seen him surprised, though, so maybe he isn't always as calm as I think he is?

Well, you know the saying about opposites attract? It could happen in this game. I mean the prince and Shotgun guy seem like real close buddies. The serious/cool/quiet guy and the dumbass. Where have I seen that pairing of friends before? Everywhere. Haha.

As for Veruko, I'm doubting that she's the heroine, but she could be apart of the group that follows the prince around. Ugh... I was trying to draw a design for Veruko last night and it was painful. I never knew it would be so hard to design new clothing for another persons character. But if she is the heroine, her attitude does seem to be similar to the prince's.

Oh god, I hope he isn't a second Cloud. As cool as Cloud seems to be... He really wasn't all that great in my opinion. I wonder what the design of the prince will be changed too. It seems that the hairstyle has a big impact on the clothing, because there is only SO much that works with that hair... xD

Well, the prince seems to be surrounded by a lot of strange people. The Shotgun Guy for one, seems really perky, but I think he can be serious like too. Like Demyx, on his last battle with Sora, he's all joke like and then gets serious while calling Sora a traitor. Something like that maybe? Almost like he's not as stupid as people think he is. Yeah, something like that.

Then, there's Glasses Guy, who seems like the prince, but he has a more laidback attitude I think. I think his hair is funny... -bashes head against wall- Everytime I look at his hair... I'm just... Speechless. xD But I think he'd be a good companion/friend for the prince. As for Big Foot, well, he reminds me of... I don't know, seems interesting though. I think he's one of those optimistic people that can be a jackass on occasion. Sort of like Seifer! But not all the time.

Oh, and for the robed figure, there isn't much, but I think he's a bit opposite from the prince. I think he'll be sarcastic like, a jerk, and sort of a taunting figure. Like he won't take anything seriously, but he'll fight as strong as any other person. And he'll make fun of the prince in a smartass way, with a smirk.^_^

Wonder what his face looks and clothes look like though... The way he was dressed in a robe made me think of when Ansem/Xehanort's heartless went to first talk to Sora in the hideout at Destiny Islands.

When I heard about white-hooded man, the first thing I thought was RUFUS. Of course, Rufus didn't have any shiny sword magic, and was connected with Shinra and the Turks. There's nothing that connects this white-hooded guy with any of the other mafia-like characters. He might be a loner.

Oh, dude, I forgot all about Rufus. Psh, a loner, how sad. Hey! A guy who has the potential to have a worst life than the prince! And be a total jerk about everything!

Uhhh... Let's just hope the prince gets more female companions. I hope none get into a real deep relationships, but it's sort of essential to have more than one female character in the game to make it seem, well, realistic.

That's true, but I wanna try designing some new outfits for them. It might change, but it's always fun to imagine what they might looks like in the final stage. Perhaps the design has something to do with their personalities or back round?

Ohh hm.. I think Squall also had this problem, though? And Riku (KH) and Kain (F4) didn't really know how to relate to their friends, either, even though they showed more emotion. I don't think social problems are unique to Cloud so much as his severe identity issues were. Those were what characterized Cloud for me, seeing as he pretty much thought he was Zack for a good portion of the game. :lol: I think a lot of FF character's have identity problems, too, though.

It was a three-piece necklace. The beads(?) were black-ish. The necklace was not completely full of beads, but instead had some space between the beads.

---The coat of arms that appears behind the protagonist
In the last scene of the trailer, where the mysterious girl (veruko) and the protagonist confront each other, this blue coat of arms floated behind the protagonist. Three circles joined by a cross pattern. Surrounding the circles were wing-like patterns. Perhaps the design might have been a bit more complex, but... ;; (By the way, the red coat of arms floating behind the mysterious girl was too complicated for me to rememeber ;; )

And 'bout the flames in the Prince and Veruko's coat, I really don't know what they mean. They must have something to do with the characters...

I think Nomura was just saying that they aren't really sure about his design. That they could do anything with them. But a touch of red on Mr. V would look nice ^_^

The design may or may not have anything to do with the story. I'm just gonna guess no xD I'mma look at the symbol for Versus and see if it looks anything like the design on his jacket~

Edit: I just looked at the Versus logo and the jacket design..they do look somewhat similar in some spots. If you look at the logo, the "spike" to the left of the very top one looks like his jacket design. I'm not sure about the rest, but maybe someone else with better skills than me can look into this more. Hope this helps somewhat ^_^

Something tells me they will not have tattoos :P They don't seem like tattoo people, and I think tattoos are associated with a "fantasy" element in FF, even though of course they exist in real life. I think Nomura is going for more of a "real" look to the people, even though I don't believe the prince's outfit for a second. :lol:

Differences in the designs from the original characters made the doubts, but you're right that there's no official confirmation that they aren't legit~ Personally, I don't think they are.

that design seems pretty complicated for any ff fanatic to draw-only nomura would know what the intricate details were-you'd have to have photographic memory to draw that character from memory from a trailer.

Well, those fans certainly overrate the Prince. If anything, I really would like to see the Prince less strong but hearing about the others who match his strength makes things a little better. As for personality, I doubt he'd be the unbearingly dark highly reserved hero like Cloud or Squall (both of whom I dislike) but hopes are that he won't be as amnesiac as any of all Final Fantasy main characters. I hope that by further development, he'll turn out as believable in personality as Nomura says. Besides, Nomura has the freedom to do the things he wants now since through his performance, he won't disappointing. The directors before definitely had strange ideas and he had to conform his designs to theirs as well as to his taste. Having less constraints now, he'll hopefully pull it off as his own director. Be happy though if it's true that it'll be his last Final Fantasy.

Also, being Square-Enix, everything's flashy as Dirge of Cerberus proved. <_<

Fangirls usually ruin things for the hardcore Final Fantasy gamer anyway but pay no mind to them. If a fangirl can't really back up her supposed fanhood with quality reasons, she isn't really a fangirl. <_< But more like one of those fangirls of Naruto: "I dunno! He's hawt!" <_< I've never met a fangirl who wasn't obsessed with appearance plus outward personality. <_<

And to back up all that I said about the Prince; I am proud of my signature 'cause I doubt the Prince would even come close to winning against Devil May Cry Dante. :cookie:

Did anybody here see the new scans of VersusXIII and XIII? The scan for XIII shows Lighning, Mr.33, summons(?), and the pigtail girl while Versus XIII shows the Prince, Veruko, Shotgun Guy and the hooded man scene. Seeing Veruko in the scan, I don't think she will be a nice and cheery person... Seems more serious like the Prince.

They're not as bouncy looking as FFXIII's. I am pleased in general with all of them, but especially the girl. She looks serious and I don't think she's happy to see the protagonist. I really want to see a serious and competent female villain. I hope she doesn't turn out to be a love interest. That would be annoying and take away from her cool and awesome factor, I think. ^^;

Shotgun Guy kind of stands out, I think. He's the only one I'd describe as "bright." He looks kind of funny to me next to all these really serious dark people.

well for once ff actually feels so close to reality-versus is probably the most realistic out of all ff games.Like nomura said-it doesn't feel fabricated-and the characters aren't created..just for the sake of it.I think for once typical cliches will probably be diminished in this game.

My outlook on the game has changed completely, I really have no thoughts on the Protagonist anymore because they are going to change him a lot, which I don't know why, he's cool the way he looks now, and about his personality, I have no fricken clue what to think there.... not until we hear him speak.... I believe Shotgun Guy is going to be happy,brave,and even charismatic? I can somehow see that.But he can also seem to have low self esteem maybe or feel nervous?Feeling he is the weakest of the group?Nah...

It's out of the person's control and involves various other side effects that would make it rather hard to portray "realistically" in a video game protagonist. Also, being especially associated with emotional trauma in popular culture, it smells like Cloud, which Nomura seems to want to avoid.

2. We've already seen the protagonist in "serious mode" and the protagonist in "friendly mode" and niether one appear particularly violent, out of control, or full of rage to me. I don't see a specifically "wrathful mode" to him. Of course it could just be that we haven't been exposed to that "side" of him yet, but I think there's a better explanation.↓



The dude who wrote the Versus section of the CLOUD Book picked up on a "dual existence" of inner calm amidst outward violence in the protagonist already, and I'm inclined to think that the hairstyle is an extension of this single aspect of him rather than a hint at a split personality whose parts appear alternatingly.

I think that the violence and calm exist at the same time when he calls them forth, a synthesis-of-elements sort of thing, and may have little or nothing to do with him when he isn't in "serious mode."

Since Normura stated that the Versus Guy character is different from CLoud and Squall, i think he is more outgoing than them. He can be merciless as shown in the trailer when he fight against the soldier. THe way he fight goes to show that he is cool, desicive and confident.

The way he act around his friend as shown in the scan, he seem to be outgoing and interact very well to person he is close to. Particularly shotgun guy.

I think i got to draw more of him to grasp more of his character. He is an interesting character to me.

Although I'll agree with Blankie with there not being a split personality, saying he's just "serious" is a bit... dunno, watering down the truth. Whoever publicized the description of the prince's hair being calm in the front and violent in the back probably hit the nail on the spot. I believe the hairstyle he donnes is a good influence of the type of character he is.

Honestly, if you watched the trailer and saw the prince break one guy's neck, and fully pierce someone with a long sharp weapon, and don't call him violent, that would probably make a lot of the villains or protagonists of any story in film, books, and games, and a lot of the homicidal criminals in our society "serious, but not violent" ... yeah, I don't think it quite works that way...

On another note, I am versus Terros's comment on him seemingly nice, but personality-wise is violent. That would not make sense because you can see the two structures of the hair simultaneously to create that one hairstyle... if his hair was down, then turned all uppity and spiky when he got violent then yea I can see that. Not to mention if I saw a guy like the prince walking down the 3rd St. Promenade, I would assume he means business with someone, and a lot of other people would that wow, that guys looks like he's about to kill someone/is scary. The description notes that his front hair is calm... where does the front hair lie? pretty much near if not on top of the person's face. And the back, is violent. When you talk to someone or know someone, and they leave an impression you don't think of their back. You imagine their face. I think Nomura meant to portray him as a seemingly violent and serious person (and this may well explain the reason why you see his back most of the time), but when you look at him and face him up front, he is just another guy who can smile, laugh, hang with his friends and be a carefree man. There's the calm. That's the true person he really is. Maybe everyone being greedy about the crystal has forced him to develope a shell to shield himself from his enemies, but if you get to know him and you're his friend, he will share his true self with you. That's my interpretation of that whole design atm, but since it's only one factor of the design, I will admit now that what I am saying is not correct. It's just my current deduction.

Although I'll agree with Blankie with there not being a split personality, saying he's just "serious" is a bit... dunno, watering down the truth. Whoever publicized the description of the prince's hair being calm in the front and violent in the back probably hit the nail on the spot. I believe the hairstyle he donnes is a good influence of the type of character he is.

Honestly, if you watched the trailer and saw the prince break one guy's neck, and fully pierce someone with a long sharp weapon, and don't call him violent, that would probably make a lot of the villains or protagonists of any story in film, books, and games, and a lot of the homicidal criminals in our society "serious, but not violent" ... yeah, I don't think it quite works that way...

On another note, I am versus Terros's comment on him seemingly nice, but personality-wise is violent. That would not make sense because you can see the two structures of the hair simultaneously to create that one hairstyle... if his hair was down, then turned all uppity and spiky when he got violent then yea I can see that. Not to mention if I saw a guy like the prince walking down the 3rd St. Promenade, I would assume he means business with someone, and a lot of other people would that wow, that guys looks like he's about to kill someone/is scary. The description notes that his front hair is calm... where does the front hair lie? pretty much near if not on top of the person's face. And the back, is violent.
