I heard something about this several years ago but it was regarding FFX and FFVII not X-2. Since all of FF takes place in the same universe* anyway it wouldn't be so far-fetched.
*universe as the term used to describe something that shares similarities with another title. ex. the Slayers universe consists of animes/books that aren't directly connected.

Eh, if he say so. But there is only minor connections. You can say that Kingdom hearts connects everything.
And he says its at two different planets. If there is connection, they are slim. You can say that its a funny idea that the games are connected, but we have two different storys and the should be seperated. To say that Yuna affected FFVII by saving her world and to think that a 1000 years later the FFVII world have that in their history books are a too freaky idea.

meh, maybe. It seems to be connected slightly, I guess if you really started to think about all the stuff that happens in both games you could come up with some connections. But different planets?

I don't think Kingdom Hearts is a good example - the characters are random, they have a different life in there.

1000 years is a long time, things can be forgotten, evidence destroyed, covered up, forbid by religion and more...
Who knows what is going on in Nojimas head, some day we might have a game connecting every FF ever made.

After Shinra quit the Gullwings he got enormous financial backing from Rin and went to the Farplane to start extracting the Mako energy used by the Vegnagun. But the system for utilizing this energy could not be completed in his generation, so far in the future when space travel was possible, the Shinra Company was founded on another planet... or something like that. That would be a thousand years or so from this game's story.

The problem with that is how did they forget space travel over 1000 years since we all know that space travel was new in FF7 even in FFXI when technology was lost it was a 10,000 year gap and mutation with new creation of life. I can't remember what exactly went on during that part in FF7 though(except black materia). But as well this is Nojima's brain child. he created it so we can't really argue with the creator.

hmmm a game that connects all FF's. That would be quite something.

You really think so? Every human and beast in FFX loves Yuna for the eternal calm. She must have been written in books all over the world. (small planet really, wierd)
Connect every game mede? Sounds like a typical fanfiction story to me, desperate writers try to twist out a connection and write about a time/space portal making it plausebole for them to meet. Riiiigt.
As said. KH2 did to that in a alternative world. Except for Auron, the only real character in KH2 that are te "real" Auron. Why can't we have more of that?

first lets look at the ones with multi worlds and dimensions.
FF4- overworld, underworld, moon
FF5- three planets
FF6- one world gets wasted i believe
FF7- one and promiseland(heaven)
FF8- one and time slip future
FF9- two planets
FF10 and 10-2- one and a dimsion(farplane)
FF11- one, paradise(heaven), and dimensions(al'taeiu and dynamis)
Tactics- one(also people like to connect it to Vagrant Story)
Tactics advance- two dimensions kinda
only ones i can come up on the top of my head

I wasn't hoping to get all the characters to meet each other, but some might...I was thinking that the games could be connected some how with history and/or family trees, not only chocoboc and moogels and Shivas and Ultima weapons.
And I think it is possible to forget Yuna, if not in a 1000 years then in 2000 or more. Books don't last for ever, nigher do stories and myths. Some huge disaster may destroy history in a matter of seconds...

This is a good explanation on connections of a certain group of FF's. If you don't want to read it, then don't click it.
They all take place in the world of Ivalice. Tactics takes place after the events of Final Fantsy XII and there are references in that game of a time when airships plyed the skies and races that used to live but are now extinct. FF Tacatics Advance takes place in an alternate universe which is created by a kid who played Final Fantasy XII on his PS2 (cool funky story). Vagrant Story takes place in Lea Monde' in the Continent of Valendia (I.E. Valendia Knigts of Peace, VKP). This continent is also on the map of FFXII though its spelled Valentia. So they aren't spinoff's exactly, but they all do tie into each other in a way.http://www.ffxii.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7314

As you may or may not know, at one point in Final Fantasy X-2, Shinra is running a diagnostic of the Farplane, and he remarks that the energy dwelling there -- which he calls the life force of Spira -- could provide a source of energy if extracted. Energy enough to power a city even. It was also said that Shinra would be leaving the Gullwings after the final mission of FFX-2. Further still, the Al Bhed entrepeneur Rin said that he and others of like mind were looking into researching a method of extracting the energy inside the planet, Spira.
Nojima elaborated on this in the interview in the Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania. He said that after Shinra quit the Gullwings, he and Rin entered business together, and with Rin's financial backing, Shinra attempted using the remains of a giant machina called "Vegnagun" to extra mako from the Farplane. However, he said that Shinra's attempts would prove unsuccessful, and that his descendants would some day discover the proper means of implementing the idea.
He went on to say that some 1,000 years after the events of FFX-2, Shinra's descendants would leave Spira and travel to Gaia, and there, at some point in the future, they would successfully implement their ancestor's idea. This concept was obviously on the mind of Nojima even at the time of this interview, a full year before the Japanese release of FFX-2, and was also something that Kitase approved, for it is Kitase himself who here hints at Shinra's attempts to extract mako from the Farplane.
Further of note are the other appearances of the concept that have been mentioned: a year after the interview with Nojima in the FFX-2 Ultimania came the release of Final Fantasy X-2: International+Last Mission, based three months after the ending of FFX-2. Here we learn that Shinra has, indeed, left the Gullwings and is now conducting research with Rin. What was the research we had been previously told they would conduct? Correct: research into the extraction of mako. Research that would lead Shinra's descendants to successfully discovering the proper means of utilizing the concept.
Finally came the publication of the FFVII Ultimania Omega in September, 2005. Here, Shinra is mentioned and it's said that he was researching a means of extracting his planet's energy, but that the results of his research couldn't be seen in X-2. It then said "Perhaps his descendants will one day found a company that supplies energy from the Planet?" Who is the company that did that? Correct: the same company that bears his name; Shin-Ra.
The concept is now undeniable. It is definitely 100% official.
An extended history lesson for those of you who are interested:
As we should all know from having played FFVII, the Shin-Ra Company began as a simple weapons developer. This is a logical expectation of the descendants of the genius, Shinra, who constantly invented various technological gadgets. The Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega has slightly elaborated on the backstory of the company to explain that Shin-Ra Works -- as they were called at the time -- was instrumental in bringing an end to an international war that had lasted for years (this being the war with Wutai and whatever ruling government was in place before Shin-Ra gained power).
They discovered the means to extract energy from within the Planet, and realized that they could use it to not only produce an army of elite soldiers (a special unit that would be known as "SOLDIER") and not just to produce small orbs that provided humans with magical powers (spheres called "materia") but that they could use it to generate electricity for cities. Ironically, this is exactly what their ancestor had originally conceived for the idea.
With SOLDIER and materia, the war with Wutai was quickly brought to an end, and just as quickly, the people became dependent on Shin-Ra's materia and electricity, two services that the company would market and monopolize. In short order, the government as well would concede to Shin-Ra's authority, and -- in but a single generation -- President Shinra's company had effectively taken over the entire world.
[summary]Its all pretty much pointed out by se themselves that VII and X are connected.

^Thats amazing. It really boggles my mind to think they could be connected somehow. But it's so rich, and I love that they've developed this story so much, even if it has only been seen behind the scenes thus far.

I've been suspecting this for a while (When I first heard that a kid called Shinra was in X-2, I became suspicious.) While watching my sister play through X-2 (It's her game) I began to think that it was in some way connected to FFVII. It's just too obvious not to be true. And you'd be surprised how easy it is for history to be lost in one or two thousand years. Does anyone remember what happened in the year 1008? Nope. And this may be a bit off as a comparison, but the gods of Olympus and Egypt probably used to be real people, and their actual stories have been twisted and changed so much that now they seem impossible.
Zeus, for example, was probably an early king. And I seriously doubt most of our history about that era and before is correct. Information gets manipulated as time passes. What I'm trying to say is, Spira could very well be Gaia. A planet can change incredibly after a catastrophic disaster, but humans can still remember details of the past and pass them down through word of mouth. There're too many connections between the two (three) games to deny it. It's kind neat how X and X-2 are connected to VII.

I completely agree. I find this very interesting too, IBeat ^_^. I got suspicious too when I heard Shinra's name and what he did in X-2 (I watched my RL BFF play it XD). I had heard about that story above before as well but it was a year back or so. I guess now it really is true, ne? I love how they developed this story it's cool! I wonder if the Summoners were early Cetra... What do you guys think? Also, I should mention, Cid does remind me alot of an Al Bhed. Perhaps he was a decendent of them? XD.

I damn well hope X-2 ain't a prequel or whatever. I personally think it was a not very wise choice of Square to do that but they're for their fans.....

A historical prequel, if that makes sense. Ignore the slutty trio and focus on Spira and Gaia XD
But that was way interesting. I need to play FFX now that i just read this. Woopee for touching my ps2 after 4 months.
I'd laugh if Shuyin/Tidus is Cloud's great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather.
