Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII Patent

Well as we haven't heard anything about this at all yet I searched for the full patent to see if there were any clues about it there. I found every single page Square-Enix and the US Patent Office have sent to each other concerning the patent but I'm completely illiterate in this area. I am wondering if they are having a problem with the patent going through because it hasn't been finalized.

It seems the patent office is having trouble with the word "Fantasy" being in the title and you can see on page 48 that Square-Enix is disputing that by showing all the other titles it's registered with the word Fantasy in the title. If anyone can make any sense out of this please help. One thing though, the PDF is backwards just to be annoying so the start is on the last page.

Now I'm no law expert, but it seems to me as if the hang up is in the wording used to described a certain area of the patent; in particular International Class 16. This class includes the patent on all the listed materials in that class, one of which is described as "...a series of books featuring fictional stories and/or fantasy stories..."

I think what may be the issue is the use of the word "FANTASY" both as the name of the item being patented as well as a word to describe an area of the patent. This is my assumption based off of the patent office's repsonse:

"Therefore, applicant must disclaim the descriptive wording "FANTASY" apart from the mark as shown because it merely describes the subject matter that is featured in the goods in class 16."

Again, this is merely my assumption. Now I'm not sure what the implications of having to disclaim the word "FANTASY" separately would be, but I'd hope that SE would be able to resolve an issue with a single word relatively easily. I could be wrong in this respect as well and I hope that someone else more knowledgeable in this area could either confirm or deny my assumptions.

No for now its just XIII, Agito, and Versus. Haeresis is still in the planning stages and their was one called Melody XIII but so far its been called a fake.But Square is playing alot of games over the next 10 years or so. So who knows.

^ Yep, it sure looks like six to me. I wonder if Square-Enix is going to make a CG film for the XIII series, like they did for the Final Fantasy VII Compilation...
