I think Lost Odyssey looks pretty great, it has a nice art style and the characters and storyline sound refreshingly different to most RPG's. I particulary like the idea that the main character is an immortal and has lived for 1000 years, which isn't something you see everyday in games.

The only things that dissapoint me so far are the fixed camera angles on the field screens and the inclusion of random battles - playing FFXII has made it really hard for me to go back to the 'old ways' of RPG games!

Sakaguchi is in my opinion one of the true greats of the games industry so I have faith that the game will turn out to be excellent, and certainly the best of it's kind on the 360.

OMG awesome shots. Nice graphics and I like the realism with his hair, unlike most video-game characters who has their hair in a "too perfect" fashion. This one is pretty realistic, but what's the deal with the golden armored guys with the funny helmet? o.0

Lost Odyssey to release this Christmas!!! from 1Up (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3157756)

http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/7944/7900004mi5.jpg
"Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi revealed that Lost Odyssey, the second RPG from Sakaguchi's Mistwalker Studios, would ship this Christmas simultaneously in Japan and the United States. This simultaneous release comes as no big surprise, as Lost Odyssey seems to be more targeted toward a Western audience. Some of the proof of this can be found in Lost Odyssey's lip-syncing; the game is being lip-synced with English actors and the Japanese will be dubbed. Additionally, Sakaguchi said that the U.S. release of Blue Dragon is currently slated for an August release."

cool new wallpaper!!

I've decided I can't justify the purchase of a 360 just for Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, it's just gonna be PS3 for me.

Lost Odyssey does look really nice, I just wish Sakaguchi would see sense and make it and his other future releases for the PS3!

I guess for now I'll have to get my Mistwalker fix from ASH:Archaic Sealed Heat on the DS, whenever that finally gets released.

see sense in releasing it for PS3? as if it was non-sensical for them to be on 360?

this time around, the 360 is THE console for RPG's of all kinds..atleast until PS3 picks up the slack

i mean honestly if the purchase of a 360 cant be justified for you yet, id love to know what justifies a PS3 purchase...

I mean 'see sense' because Sakaguchi is making Japan-focused RPG's for a machine that is not selling in Japan. In that respect the release of the games on 360 is non-sensical, especially considering both are big-budget titles. I know PS3 isn't selling millions yet either, but it's already managed to outsell the 360 in Japan. It will be interesting to see how the games perform in the west, too.

The simple fact is, both Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon would have a better chance of success in Japan if they were released on PS3. (The Wii doesn't really factor in this because it would be unable to recreate the graphical fidelity of either game.)

What justifies a PS3 purchase? Well there's Final Fantasy XIII and Versus for a start which should be pretty obvious....both of which I'd rather have than Lost Odyssey or anything else on 360.

The 360 doesn't really have anything else that appeals to me, at least not enough to make me want to buy the machine.

whats truly "non-sensical" in this case is to NOT want to support the 360 in thre area that is the reason why the system isnt popular in japan, that being RPG games...the 360 needs these games and its a great thing to have them finally..

and 2 games that wont even be released this entire year isnt a good justification for purchasing a PS3 over a 360 yet :P

Please don't misunderstand me, I am not some PS3 fanboy/360 hater.
I am not trying to start a 360/PS3 flame war or anything like that.

I do not hate the 360 at all, actually. It does have some clear advantages over the PS3 (more organised online service for one thing). I've played various games on my friends 360 and enjoyed it. It's just that for me there's nothing in the line up of games that makes me need the machine. That's just a matter of personal taste, not a reflection of the machines themselves.

The ideal situation would be if Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey were released on both machines, because then they would reach a much larger audience and Mistwalker's future would not be solely dependent on 360 sales to generate revenue for the company. I take your point about supporting the release of J-RPG's on the 360, I do not want Mistwalker to fail - I would actually love it if their games were massive hits in Japan, even if they are on a machine I won't be buying.

Apparently, Mistwalker have been looking at PS3 development (Sakaguchi was asked about this at GDC this week). He did describe it as a 'difficult' machine to work with, but who knows? Maybe there will be Mistwalker PS3 games in the future? Perhaps future releases will be multiformat? This would be good for Mistwalker, RPG fans and the games industry in general, I think.

and 2 games that wont even be released this entire year isnt a good justification for purchasing a PS3 over a 360 yet

Hey, I never said I was buying a PS3 yet! Where I live the machine hasn't even been released! I'll buy a PS3 either at the end of this year, or next year, depending on when the really big titles are released. I've got plenty of PS2 and DS games to keep me going till then. FFXIII and Versus are the main reasons I want a PS3, but they're not the only games I want for the system - Metal Gear Solid 4, Resident Evil 5, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and plenty of others for example.

I shall end on a positive note by saying that I think your Lost Odyssey wallpaper is really great. Nice work!:)

and its completely possible for Mistwalker to make games for PS3, there are just none in the pipeline currently:P

also if you are going to get a PAL Ps3, sucks that youre going to be missing out on alot of backwards compatibility:nag:

Here are some additional screenshots, nothing is new but its worth having here

In Lost Odyssey the player takes control of Kaim, a man who has been sentenced to live for 1,000 years. Gameplay revolves around the many generations of which Kaim is a part of, his loves and losses and conflicts of a world nearing a "mystical industrial revolution". Lost Odyssey's story is being penned by the award winning Japanese novelist, Kiyoshi Shigematsu who is working directly with the game's producer Hironobu Sakaguchi on the story sequences. Heading up the artistic demands of the title is famed Japanese comic artist, Takehiko Inoue, while famed composer Nobuo Uematsu has been recruited to create a more contemporary soundtrack. Mistwalker is developing the title, but code work has been outsourced to a studio named Feel Plus, a subsidiary of Microsoft created specifically to aid Mistwalker. Former Square employees at Microsoft are also involved.

After I saw the game had random battles that took place in a instanced map during TGS I lost respect for Sakaguichi. I am still going to buy the game like I always was but that shit pissed me off to no bounds. At least you can position yourself during battle, still instanced battles equal top grade bullshit.

Quick edit: oh wait, he just selecting the mob. Even more bullshit.

may as well start sharing that dislike with every FF game before 12 seeing as random battles are pure bullshit...dont be so critical of a game that is admittedly underfeatured in the build youve seen, and not final by any means, wait till u play it..

in my opinion, random battles dont bother me as long as you dont get one every two steps, and i prefer my RPG's Turn Based..

opinions are opinions, everyone has different tastes..this game is very appealing to a person like me. my fav game of all time is still FF8

Didn't I claim that I am buying the game no matter what? Yes Random battles that are instanced are crap. Only random battles I like are when they are not instanced(Parasite Eve for example). It's features doesn't change the fact that it uses instanced battlefields. I can't take you seriously since you didn't even read my posts except the foul language that stood out. I even hate non random battles that are instanced(Chrono Cross for example). Just because the game is turn based doesn't mean they must use instanced random battles if that was the case Baldur's Gate(PC) wouldn't exist now would it?

Let me put it this way. If a RPG is supposed to be a epic journey with the most developed worlds why when ever I enter combat I get warped to a alternate dimension? This is not VR Troopers.

ok i did read your entire post . and all the games i mentioned are instanced (before 12) ..Sakaguchi said the game will have action elements, not shure as to what tho. i know it will have a front and back row(front for the melee central characetrs and back for spellcasters) and for all we know its not locked in place, and at some points characters may stand in different spots like in FFX-2..what i really want is to see a recent build of the game because id love to see what the combat system is really like, but whatever it is, i hope it has some great and challenging battles. i miss those kind of battles like VS Omega Weapon in FF8...that is my kind of thing :P

Ew Omega wasn't challenging, his strat was very disappointing ( the hero one).

Yeah I said I hate instanced battles, but didn't say I hate the games ex:I am really looking forward to LO but those battles piss me off same with BD. So yes pure BS. I hope I am allowed to move my units in battle like Magna Carta: Phantom of Avalanche(not Crimson Stigmata/Tears of Blood) because those were very interesting. He can keep his turn based battles just make them not instanced because Chrono Trigger sure as hell didn't(yes ATB is still turn-based).

But I love Takehiko's stuff. Vegabond is very nice and is supposed to be a biography of Musashi. A biography with pictures!!!!

I still think Lost Odyssey looks good, but I share Desi's disappointment with the inclusion of the instanced random battles - even Blue Dragon let's you see the enemies on screen before you fight them, so why not in Lost Odyssey?

I don't hate random battles, it's just that plenty of games have shown that there are much better ways of presenting battles to the player (Chrono Trigger, FFXII, Blue Dragon etc). I have loved playing - and still very much enjoy - all the old FF games, but things have moved on now. It seems odd to me that Sakaguchi would choose to include such an archaic system in a game that is meant to be a poster child for the supposed 'next generation' of RPG's.

Perhaps he's trying to make a kind of 'Final Fantasy that never was' with Lost Odyssey, the only problem being of course that FF moved on - FFXII tore up the rulebook and FFXIII is set to do the same. There is the danger that gameplay-wise Lost Odyssey could end up being left in the stone age - a dissapointment considering the storyline, graphics and characters all look really great. I guess time will tell.

And when is Mistwalker going to release ASH:Archaic Sealed Heat on DS? I've been waiting for that for what seems like forever and there hasn't been any new information about it for ages. It's one of my most anticipated DS games and I just wish it was getting as much attention as Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey - or maybe the development isn't going as smoothly as planned?

And Xion, my favourite FF game ever is also FF8! I know a lot of people hate it, but it was the first FF I played and to me it was the most incredible thing I had ever seen. The game absolutely blew me away and as far as I'm concerned it's an under-appreciated classic (yes, even with those random battles!). It's not perfect (nothing is), but for me it will always be one of my most treasured gaming experiences.

Blue Dragon still includes instanced battles which are a no-no to me too. I don't mind random battles if they take place on the current field you are traveling on ex. Rogue Galaxy. I dislike Instanced battles no matter if random or if enemies are presented in front of me Magna Carta: Tears of Blood/Crimson Stigmata.

It just seems so disappointing to me that on the evidence of the current gameplay videos, Lost Odyssey appears tp be like a relic from the dark ages wrapped up in genuinely great next-gen graphics. Is there going to be any gameplay innovation?

The way the battles are presented is really, really dull. I felt a bit let down when I saw the first gameplay footage and saw that really, it wasn't doing anything that I hadn't already seen in something like FF7, which was released a decade ago. It was just the most bland, basic turn based combat just with a nice graphical sheen.

As I said before, I still think it will be a good game, it's just not as exciting as I previously thought. Hopefully Sakaguchi and Mistwalker will prove me wrong!

Well your three immortal characters can't die so you can't get a gameover that is innovative in a way. Well maybe on the last boss but other then that nope. I also hate that there is three immortal/1000 year characters I was fine with two(which I hope share no romance) but once they said three immortals and three regular I was a little heartbroken. Takes the special out of being semi-immortal.

I actually loved the gameplay video with the soldiers surrounding you and the Giant steamcleaner. Like I said in my old thread about Mistwalker, they didnt' show some important gameplay/combat elements which is fine but the battles still warp me to VR trooper zone.

Nice images and wallpapers!:)

By the way, IGN had some new details about Lost Odyssey the other day, I don't know if you've seen it or not:

US, May 4, 2007 - Mistwalker's first Xbox 360 RPG hasn't even hit American shores yet, but interest for its second effort, Lost Odyssey, is starting to swell across the seas in Japan. A recent issue of Famitsu had an update on the status of Mistwalker's upcoming RPG provided by Hironobu Sakaguchi himself. A Microsoft representative confirmed to IGN that the game is now 70% complete and provided us with a translated transcription of the article.

According to the Famitsu article, Sakaguchi commented that the overarching theme in Lost Odyssey is "humanity" and the music is being composed to reflect inner emotions. The music director Nobuo Uematsu is nearly done with the music and it will be a big change in style from Mistwalker's first Xbox 360 RPG, Blue Dragon.

He also went on to say that the latest build of Lost Odyssey is far enough along that the team has gone into the balancing and tuning portion of development. The load times are being reduced so that they are becoming less noticeable as well.

Sakaguchi also confirmed in the article that Lost Odyssey will have a fixed camera system, though it will move to provide realism through "camera vibration and focus effects."

Perhaps the most interesting part of Sakaguchi's comments centered on the battle system. According to the article, Lost Odyssey will employ a wall system which will require players to ensure that the front guards protect the rear. Enemies will use these formations as well and Mistwalker plans to add an "analog trigger system for physical attacks" to breech the walls.

In an in-depth Q&A session at the end of the article, Sakaguchi explained that magical attacks in Lost Odyssey are much more powerful than physical attacks, so sorcerers will have to be protected with the front line while they do their thing. He went on to hint that acquired skills will be needed to equip accessories and that the obtainable skills will vary between mortals and immortals in the game. He then told readers that item synthesis will work through combining items infused with magical power along with a basic weapon.

Sakaguchi finished his comments by saying that the team is working "full-power" on Lost Odyssey, so expect new details to surface shortly.

IGN have a 17 minute demo/walkthrough of Sakaguchi playing through a debug/unfinished version of Lost Odyssey. Although the ingame text is japanese, the voice acting is all in english and the character's mouths are animated for the english dialogue:

TGS 2007: Demo (Off-Screen HD)
http://uk.media.xbox360.ign.com/media/731/731773/vids_1.html

A few things are of note about this video:

-The graphics are genuinely amazing, the character models are full of detail and are brilliantly animated.

-Seth has a son who is a grey haired old man!

-The english voice acting is very good and is synched well with the lip movements.

-The battle going on in the background when Seth is running around looks terrible - it looks more like some kind of historical re-enactment society rather than two raging armies trying to destroy eachother.

-The spell effects in battle are very cool

-The mage character (I believe his name is Yansen or Janssen) seen in the romantic scene at the end, looks like he could be a bit annoying, but probably quite funny in small doses. His voice seems to suit the character well, though. Seth's voice is also good and seems to fit her too.

I am actually seriously considering buying a 360 almost entirely because of this game. I was unconvinced by previous videos of the game, but the new footage and the new character/gameplay/story details have really done a lot to convince me that this is definitely a game that I want to play in full.

Just watched those! You're right, the balcony scene is really excellent, although it surprises me too that a queen would be in love with Jansen!

One thing confuses me a little though, I was under the impression before that Jansen was the third immortal character but in that scene he says something like "You, you're a queen, you're an immortal, I'm just a regular guy". So it's actually this queen who is our third immortal character?

And is this queen married to the king seen in the previous scenes with Seth or are they rulers of separate countries? Is Jansen mixed up in a royal affair/love triangle?

Loved Jansen's line at the end to the little kid who kicks him: "Who are you? Seth's sister!?"

Xion
Sep 21 2007, 04:54 PM
I dont know the answer to that but i do know Jansen isnt imortal, but Kaim, Seth, Ming (the queen) and i beleive the main bad guy is an imortal too, seeing as Ming said soimething like "living all this time for his own selfish..."something like that...the other characters are Mortal as far as i know and are primed for death...lol

also, the guy in the golden armor is the king of Uhra, and Ming is the Queen of another country (jansen says something like"dont you want to stay and save ") he says the name but i forgot it...so they are not the king and queen of the same country.

Ah, I see...thanks, Xion! That makes a lot more sense!

Listening to the balcony scene again, I wonder if maybe I misheard what Jansen said - he could be saying "you're a mortal...I'm just a regular guy" he's quite flustered when he says 'regular guy' as though he's correcting himself - he may have been about to say 'you're a mortal, I'm an immortal', and he doesn't want to reveal his true identity, so he could still be the third immortal character. It would help greatly if someone could release a version of the scene with subtitles!

Jansen's voice also sounds quite familiar but I can't quite place where I've heard it before.

Nice work with the screencaps, Xion!

I think I've figured out where I've heard Jansen's voice actor before: I'm not entirely sure if it's the same guy because I don't know the name of the actor but I think it's the guy who is also doing the voice of Nathan Drake in Uncharted on PS3. Could be wrong about that of course, but they do sound a lot alike.

Flint
Sep 23 2007, 04:15 PM
I'm really glad about the lips being synched to the english voices, it's nice to see Sakaguchi showing respect to the western audiences. I hope FFXIII does the same but it probably won't.

Annoying that Lost Odyssey has been delayed for the US and Europe till next February though, isn't it? I guess that's a 'strategic' decision on the behalf of Microsoft...they probably thought it would be overshadowed by the likes of Halo and Mass Effect (even though personally I'm more interested in Lost Odyssey than either of those games).

On a side note, does anyone know if Microsoft have started putting the new 65nm chips in new 360's yet? Are there still the same reliability problems with new machines?

EDIT: Various websites are reporting that Mistwalker are making a Blue Dragon game for the DS! Now, if they would annouce a Lost Odyssey game/spin-off for the DS too, that would pretty much be the best thing ever (for me at least because I love the DS!).

As far as I know theyre the same.

Xion
Sep 23 2007, 06:08 PM
actually they have introduced the Falcon chips into newly manufactured 360's for perhaps a month now, im shure they are around, but there is no way of distinguishing them from the rest..there are also consoles who sport HDMI inputs (in premium) so those are the best bet of having the new chip..eitherway, the main problem was the heatsinks not functioning properly and there are now new heatsinks..the RROD problem should start to fade, but reguardless, every console in covered and if/when yours goes down, send it in, and when you get it back the problem should be gone forever

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhScSJZNXSk I was looking for voice actor information on Lost Odyssey and stumbled upon this site (topic); I am glad I did :D (Xion you rock!!!)

I have never anticipated a video game more than Lost Odyssey! Ever since it was first announced, I had a close eye on Sakaguchi's title. The TGS '07 footages blew my mind, now there is not the slightest doubt in my mind - Lost Odyssey is going to be the most epic game (story) I will have ever experienced.
The English voice acting is terrific so far; it is also great that the lip-movements have been matched to the English speech - it just adds another layer of realism.¯

Jensen reminds me of Laguna (my favorite character of FFVIII), he is so sweet and funny; I cannot wait to see how his romance with Ming (the immortal queen) unfolds, something tells me it cannot end happily though :(

I really want to know who the voice actors are; I do not recognize any of the voices. Btw: Flint...I am certain Jansen is not voiced by "the guy who does Nathan Drake' voice" I am very familiar with the Drake's voice actor. His name is Nolan North and I am certain it is not him.
It has been confirmed that they only hired professional LA stationed voice actors; I am glad about that.

Uematsu's score is beautifully haunting! Lost Odyssey's the main theme is one of the best main themes ever composed! (VG & Movie themes combined).

Here is the DIRECT-FEED intro movie to Lost Odyssey :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhScSJZNXSk

Lost Odyssey is going to be very special; I think it will take storytelling in VGs to a new level of greatness. Lucky Japanese who will get to experience this epic "odyssey" on Dec.6 '07 already - the rest of the world will have to wait until February of 2008.

Uhhm...ok?

First of all:
The Queen IS immortal (Seth and Kaim are not the only immortals in Lost Odyssey, you know?...there are five in total)
Second of all:
I made a little typo and you are already saying I am: "tripping off acid?" (whatever that means)...and btw: English is not my first language, that is why I did that spelling mistake.

Yes, chill-out Desi...everybody makes mistakes.

I was positive Jensen told Ming he was immortal and their relationship wouldn't work out. It was the other way around; Jansen acknowledged the fact that Ming is immortal and then she is also a queen, while he is just "a regular guy" – so, he expressed his concern (or tried to :P) about falling in love with her.

- Only mortal characters gain new skills as they level up, but the immortal characters rely on a "skill link" system to gain the skills of the mortal characters.

- There are up to 6 skill slots, so you have to pick and choose to customize each character.

- As you use skills, they get more powerful for that character.

- When you equip rings and accessories, they can add special things to your attacks. The special element will be triggered if you get a Perfect on the combat ring timing.

- Rings are crafted using materials you get from beating normal enemies. There are tons of crafting possibilities affecting everything from damage, elemental attacks, defense, critical rate, stealing, etc.

- All equipment changes are visible in all scenes except in movies. Sakaguchi was saying how it would be silly if a character had a nekomimi (cat ears) on during a serious scene.

- The world map in the game seems to be a map where you select locations from a list, similar to FFX and FFX-2.

- Uematsu composed over 50 tracks for Lost Odyssey, and used a variety of instruments for the score.

- There are 3 vocal songs in the game, all lyrics written by Sakaguchi. Two of them are in English.

- More details on the music and other stuff will be revealed at the Lost Odyssey Premiere event on 19 Nov.

Also, could this be the actual NA boxart to Lost Odyssey?:

So far, we know about the following Characters:

- Kaim Argonar
- Seth Balmore
- Ming Numara
- Sarah Sisulart
- Jansen Friedh
- Cooke & Mack
- Sed
- Tolten

And, for the sake of speculating...
- We still do not know the relationship between Kaim and Sarah; there is a possibility that she could be his daughter too....If she is, then I would like to see Tolten end up together with her actually...

Scan #2: I also absolutely adore Seth Balmore's battle outfit!!

Cool - thank you!!!

If you look at the Jap cover; it is only Kaim Argonar that you see.
Anyway, the NA Cover looks cooler to me!! xD (assuming that this the official one)

we dont have the game, we dont know the story so we can only speculate, but im lost as to where you got that from, i havent heard of any connection between Sarah and Seth...besides the obvious, their both party members...but still im shure there is no relation, Sed is Seth's Son we know, but why would Sarah be related? they dont even have the same last name. Also, the blonde haired presumably evil man is Gangora. Unsure of the spelling.

anyway thx for the scans, im very hyped for the game, can't wait!

Inoue should have had the queen cover up some. Her outfit though looks like it is made from expensive materials does not have a elegance you would expect from royalty.

Game Informer did an interview with Sakaguchi and there were some interesting tidbits of information.. along with some speculation on my part :)

- The two other immortals are obviously the two children, Mack and Cooke. Now, in the interview, he mentioned something along the lines of 'Immortality can severely affect the age of a person by halting it, or even making it go backwards." Now, take this with a grain of salt, but I'm willing to bet that those children are aging backwards through time. I dont know how this works, but it's my theory.

- The world map is akin to Final Fantasy X's. This is only at first though. When you get your vehicle, it will turn into an actual world map you'll be able to explore it. I think this is where all of these secret areas mentioned in the achievements list come into play. This is confirmed and *not* speculation.

I am sorry but I don't have a link to the interview. There is another FFXII community website where the interview was posted on an LO thread, but I can't seem to find that website anywhere for some reason. If you go to the Game Informer website though, they have the interview with Sakaguchi but it's insider only.

Gamersyde have put up 2 new videos showing the first 20 minutes or so from the finished game, with Japanese text and English voices:

First ten minutes:

http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_5565_en.html

Second ten minutes:

http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_5568_en.html

The first ten minutes is stuff seen before in previous videos (the opening big battle scene) but I don't think it's been seen with the English voices before, not that there's much dialogue in that part.

The second video has more gameplay footage, and a few voiced cutscenes including the first appearance of Seth!

I think the English voices are okay, not great but not terrible either although Kaim's battle soundbites are pretty poor and will probably get really annoying after a while.

Decent. He sucked ass at that ring shit though. I dislike some of Kaim's strange interactions with his surroundings though. Subspace is also sooooo 1990's. Weapons should be visible at all times.

I like Seth already (which is nothing new) but how they tell her to sit and shutup when she is a squad leader and they normal guards?

Im watching it now. So far it looks really good but looks to be nothing new really :/ I dont understand that circle thing but whatever it is the player is absolutely shit at it. xD

The name "armored magic troopers" made me sick as well.

Desi

Compare the circle ring to attacking in Legend of Dragoon. Makes sense since a decent amount of the team is working on it.

I do like how he looked at someone as he was running by in video 3. The city also looks nice but empty compared to say Rabanstare.

Gamersyde now have the next few parts of Lost Odyssey up:

Part 3:

http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_5574_en.html

This one has the opening credits sequence, a cutscene featuring a lot of political wrangling at the Uhra Council and the first appearance of Gongora. Also the first mention of Grand Staff. The dialogue and voice acting are okay, but again nothing amazing.

Part 4:

http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_5577_en.html

This part is a lot more interesting as it has Kaim's vision/nightmare of the little girl commiting suicide by throwing herself off a cliff, the first appearance of Sarah and lots of gameplay of running around the city interacting with various things. Also the first appearance of Jansen when Kaim pins him by the neck against a wall. Jansen introduces himself as "Jansen, messenger for Lord Gongora", which I wasn't really expecting. Also a scene with Tolten and Gongora discussing Grand Staff and other political matters.

Part 5:

http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_5580_en.html

A big pile up of cutscenes in this video, with Gongora sending Kaim, Jansen and Seth on a mission to investigate Grand Staff. Seth reveals to Kaim that like him she is also immortal and has lost her memory. Special mention here must go to the very drunk Jansen who appears at the end!

Also, Gametrailers have footage of the Japanese Lost Odyssey Premier event, featuring Sakaguchi, Uematsu and some other people on stage talking about the game and showing various gameplay footage. Unfortunately the whole thing is in Japanese with no subtitles or anything so like most people here I have no idea what they are saying but I'll post the links anyway for those interested (hopefully Gametrailers will provide a subbed version at some point).

Part 1 (27 minutes!)

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28610.html

Part 2 (12 minutes)

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28613.html

I really want to know who the voice actors are; I do not recognize any of the voices.

Completely stolen from duckroll on NeoGAF, here's the English voice cast:

Kaim: Keith Ferguson
Seth: Tara Strong
Ming: Salli Saffioti
Sarah: Kim Mai Guest
Cooke: Kath Soucie
Mack: Nika Futterman
Jansen: Michael McGaharn
Tolten: Chad Brandon
Sed: Michael Bell
Gongora: Jesse Corti
King Gohtza: Peter Reneday
Kakanas: David Lodge
Lirum: Shelly Callahan
Roxian: H. Richard Greene
Maia: Melody Spevack

Out of those names the only two I recognise at first glance are Keith Ferguson (Basch in FFXII) and Tara Strong (Rikku in FFX/X-2). Anyone else recognise the others or know what they've been in before?

According to IGN, the game is just like something built on a PS2 engine in high definition. Full of frame drops. :/

There's definitely an element of truth in that, I think. When watching all the new videos of Lost Odyssey I was always thinking if they scaled the graphics down a bit you'd have a game that could easily be converted to PS2. The sad thing for Mistwalker is that if it was released on PS2 it would probably sell loads more copies than the 360 version, at least in Japan anyway.

Gamersyde have another video of the game, this time a cutscene featuring Kaim, Seth and Jansen making their way through some woods. Some good dialogue lines from Jansen, a bit more info about Seth and more self-centred miserablism from Kaim.

i find it funny that IGN is saying these things about framerate and whatnot..from the videos i have from Gamersyde (to wich they admit the console its played on is malfunctioning causing framedrops aparently) the framerate looks very solid, it only studders a couple times in cutscenes, it looks very smooth during gameplay and just walking around...

ive hardly noticed any tearing, and absoultely ZERO pop-in..so it looks very stable to my eyes. as for the animations, well its a huge game with alot of cutscenes, there are A, B, and C, cutscenes, C cutscenes i guess would be the ones that have voice with text and you press A to continues, B ones would be the ones that run on their own but with somewhat simple 'ps2' animations, and the A cutscenes are the really impressive ones (like the drunk scene) those look amazing IMO..the dream scene blew me away..COD4 aside, id say Mass Effect is considered the best looking 360 game, and this just looks better to me, especially in the texture and shadows, also the articulation of the hair and clothing.

anyway the game looks to be everything i hoped it would be and i cant wait to own it

see ya guys. :)

I thought you left because of fan boys? Denying obviously things as petty as framedrops its pretty fanboyish xD There are obvious frame drops in pretty much all the cutscenes, I watched the gamersyde videos too. Theres also loads of texture pop in one some old gameplay videos too.

Oh, and a faulty console doesn't cause frame drops.

That aside, it looked good :cunning:

...And if you watch IGN's new Lost Odyssey videos (which feature different scenes to those in the gamersyde ones) the framerates seem pretty solid, with the only real problem that I can see being the lengthy load times when switching to battle mode. I guess the writer of that article was just being very picky and hard to please (a bit like all the fuss recently about the PS3 version of The Orange Box and it not being as bad as some websites will try to have you believe).

These videos show off some new locations, the FFX-2 style world map/location selector screen, and all have english voices:

http://uk.media.xbox360.ign.com/media/731/731773/vids_1.html

Overall, I think the game is looking very good and will certainly please those people looking for a traditional JRPG with hi-def graphics. There doesn't seem to be many surprises when it comes to the actual gameplay, but if the mechanics are sound and the game fun to play then that shouldn't really matter.

Mass Effect is considered the best looking 360 game, and this just looks better to me, especially in the texture and shadows, also the articulation of the hair and clothing.

Lost Odyssey definitely looks better from an artistic point of view. I just think the character and world designs are much more imaginative than those from Mass Effect.

No no no Bill, I have my Mass Effect Artbook and my LE game. Wonderful shit. Mass Effect bases things on curvature like the 80's scifi it is based off of. Lost Odyssey uses a lot more sharp angles and tons of extra layers. So the style of the two are vastly different.

Future perfect vs. Industrial. I am a fan of more Industrial/steampunk but I won't knock Mass Effect's cleaner style that focus' on "everybody can use it" environments. And come the fuck on, Elcor own everybody in LO. They say how they feel before they talk, amazing shit.

I know the styles are different, I was just saying I prefer Lost Odyssey's visual aesthetic to that of Mass Effect. It's not meant as an insult against Mass Effect at all, I just find LO's world, style and character designs to be far more interesting.

OMG!!!

Keith Ferguson (aka: Basch of FFXII and Bloo in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) is voicing Kaim!

Wow, even before FFXII was released, I wanted to get in contact with Mr. Ferguson to ask him a few questions about the recording sessions of FFXII...after several e-mails to several contact addresses, I never did manage to reach him :(
...and now he is voicing Kaim! (man does he sound hot!...I always thought he provided Basch with a too rough voice, but he did a wonderful job voicing him nonetheless...but the way he sounds as Kaim is simply )
...I cannot help it, I have to try reaching him again - consider me now a true fan!

Thank you for providing the English voice cast Flint!

Besides Keith Ferguson, I am familiar with Bell (Raziel of the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver VG series); Guest (Dawn Star in Jade Empire, Shalua Rui in DoC:FFVII), Futterman (Marumaro in Blue Dragon) and Strong (Kluke in Blue Dragon).
Tara Strong already sounds terrific as Seth as well.

I cannot wait for February 2008!!!
