This game has by far the most shittiest leads ever. Cecil a great character that loses nearly all of his personality when he changes to Paladin. Kain the best friend that is easily manipulated and tries to steal your betrothed from you at least three times. Rosa, more useless then a jar of chunky peanut butter.
Other then those three. The game is very good, but way overrated.

When people name their favorite FF's they always mention IV in the top three unless the only ones they played were 7-10. It is overrated.

I don't think FFIV is overrated at all. Personally I really enjoyed it. I thought Cecil, Rosa and Kain made for great leads, but I guess it's just a matter of personal taste whether you like the characters or not.
I don't know if it would be in my top 3 FF games, but as far as I'm concerned it's a lot better that FF's 1,2,3 and 5.

No, I love the game I just can't stand how these characters work.
Kain was Cecil's best friend, he respected him. Then Kain betrays Cecil but Cecil being his friend allows him to return. Next time he betrays Cecil he takes Rosa; Cecil's wife to be, along for the ride. Ok, later he returns her. Cecil puts that behind him and lets Kain join up with him again. Too bad for Cecil because Kain goes off and stabs him in the back again and I'm pretty sure Rosa disappears too. But Cecil trying to be Jesus in Paladin form forgives him again.
Personally I would have drawn the line during the second time he betrayed me. Giving people multiple chances that go out of their way to gain your trust and make off with your betrothed is beyond flawed.
Rydia, Edge, Tellum, Cid (which should have chopped up Kain already), and Yang. I love them but Cecil, Rosa, and Kain especially Kain makes this game disappointing.
How could you like those three?

You're forgetting that when Kain betrays Cecil he is being mind controlled by Golbez (or whoever it is, bear with me it's been ages since I last played this game!). As far as I remember he never consciously decides to betray Cecil, he is merely being used as a puppet and has no real control over his actions. Golbez uses Kain's jealousy of Cecil to gain control of him and manipulate him. This is how Cecil is able to forgive him and let him return to the group, as well as it being part of the way of the Paladin to forgive others.

Yeah I understand the mindcontrol bit. Still doesn't give him the reason to trust him, you can't trust someone that is so vulnerable that at any time can snap on you because they are mind controlled. It puts the safety of the whole group in danger when one person is so unreliable(Cecil doesn't help either).
And the way of the Paladin isn't to forgive others. That is a priest's job, Paladin's are their to kill whoever is considered a "evil" and people getting possessed is a evil(dispelling the evil or killing its host).

Maybe its because Cecil and Kain were "best friends." I would have forgiven him if he was my best friend and was bein manipulated by someone that wasnt him.

Arent you being a little too harsh? Keep in mind this game is pretty old, back then stories used to be different than what they are now. If you played FF4 back in its prime then it was one hell of an experience, but after playing games now you might think of it as boring. I look at FF4 as how it was back then, it was a fantastic game for its age.

No I'm not being harsh and if you had read most of my posts you would know I love FFIV but I hate Rosa, Kain, and Cecil.
FFIV is the same game that had a great moment when Edge had to face off with his mutated parents. Something that he and the player didn't want to do but had too just to save what was left of his kingdom. How a teen like Edge can make a much smarter decision then some Top rank King's favorite student Cecil is just sad on Cecil's part. There should have been a fight between Cecil and Kain with Kain flipping back and forth from being mindcontrolled and not. Would have been great.
