It could have been so much easier if this was on the PSP. At least if it was on the PSP, people would have a chance to play it.

Mobile phone games are a big hit in japan, believe it or not. Square Enix also want to make use of a phones online capabilities, and it will be episodic. I don't think its enough hunger for the game in English countries that it will ever officially come here.

You could have bumped the Poll: Cell vs. Portable topic.
The cellphone market isn't as big in NA or Europe as Japan but that doesn't have to influence the platform of choice. Since NA is just getting Before Crisis which has been out in Japan for about 2-3 years. The project is also on a smaller scale so it doesn't cost them as much to produce compared to if it was on a handheld platform.

It's on the phone because Mobile phones in Asia are very popular. Heck even 8 year olds are talking on the cellphone already. Since there is so many people with cellphones, why not release the game to a very large audience.

Square doesn't think in the rest of the world, that's why they do this for the cellphone. They should have done for a PSP lol

Why on the phone, more money? It might have been better to put in on the psp...more people would be able to play it...
Desi

More people could play it on the DS as well so it would be a better choice for it. Not to mention that cellphones have a huge userbase worldwide and given the time it can be released everywhere that Square believes matters.

 yeah it's been known for months now that Agito XIII is a game for the mobile phones
And that it'd be better if Square had decided to release it on a DS or PSP but w cant do anything against that..they will always do what they want anyway -_-

theyre probably waiting until technology developes because current cell phones cant hold that kind of graphics or gameplay for that matter.:( so well probably have to wait a long time.:(

The cell phone industry is one of the biggest industries in Asia and therefore more high tech (eg. TV, MP3 players, etc.). It acts more like a daily planner type thing to them, so the asian community uses it daily. It would make sense for them to put it on cell phones, whereas, in America, Europe, and where ever, the cellphones main use is for talking and texting.
But, yeah, if this game ever does come to the US. they whould put it on UMD format so we can play it on PSPs.

And since not all phones can have the game, wouldn't that be almost double the price because they still have to buy a new phone?

Square doesn't think in the rest of the world, that's why they do this for the cellphone. They should have done for a PSP lolRight answer, really. Brazil is part of the biggest cell phone markets around the world, believe it or not, but I don't see them releasing FFs in Brazilian cell phones because of that.
They want to make it episodic? Could use the same system that MMORPGs use with the monthly subscription fees, but allowing for download of the next episode on your PSP.
SE is about pleasing the JP costumers first, second and the rest of the world fights for the third place. :[

It is true, this isn't the only FF being released for cell phones. There's also that other one that's part of the FFVII franchise. There was one from Xenosaga as well which explained Ziggy's past before he commited suicide. But...I dont think many have any idea what I just said there. Xeno seems a bit iffy with fans on forums. Its a shame.
But I would not expect those games to come to America or anywhere else besides Japan. To my knowledge Japan is much farther ahead in technology. America most likely gets Japan's hand-me-downs. SE is based in Japan, their main market is in Japan. Anime and manga is something the entire family enjoys, RPG's are a lot bigger there than in the US. Really, RPG's are probably the minority of popular genre's in video games in comparison to others. It's probably in a place ahead of puzzle games. >_<
Since Japan is so different, SE focuses there first which is pretty obvious. Not that America doesn't offer anything to the company, that would be a lie. Just the way things are. I purposely choose not to pay any attention to a game if its officially announced its being released to mobile phones. It isn't worth a person's time since it is most likely no one here will ever play it, unless technology severely changes with cell phones in Europe and America. I'm not so into it anyway since I hardly use my cell phone anyway and I believe playing games on them is just a waste of battery.

The question isn't really "why on JP mobile phones?" but rather "why on mobile phones at all?". JP fanbase would settle very happily for a PSP game, as would the rest of the world. But they choose mobile for JP onry. tf?
Well, all in all I'm the same as you: my cell phone is for calls and messages ~.~ I don't use it for much besides that

It is a shame. FFAgitoXIII seems like it would have potential on an actual console, so why put it on a cell phone? Maybe the game itself is short or the story isn't what they think people in America or Europe would warm up to. Still why even do it in the first place? Money is probably all it boils down to, I'm sure. Hell, everything boils down to money. Again, it is a shame. I wouldn't mind giving that game a try but if it's on a cell phone, you won't see me buying it.

I'd say money. It'd be cheaper to make as phone games seem to have a quality around about halfway between the Gameboy Colour and the GBA and there're probably more people in Japan with mobile phones than with PS2/3s.

Everyone in Japan has mobiles. But I can't really see the the big reason. FF-fans are all around the world, and by only making it mobile, SE are alienating us americans and europeans. If they went PSP, the whole world could get it within a reasonable timeframe. When mobile, we poor fans will have to import japanese phone to even have poweerfull enough devices to play them. Hopefully, someone will release it with an emulator...

Agito will sell bigtime in JP, lets only hope they fail miserably though its unlikely.
If they fail they wont release on MBPhone, god i never thought id ever say that about a FF game.

There isn't one. Everyone in the world has mobiles nowadays, you don't see big titles being released for Cell phones only. People who want games have consoles for that, be it in US or Japan. Releasing a FF for mobiles won't increase the sales there, not every Japanese will buy it, and those who will, most likely play FF already and have a console or two at home ~.~
Oh well, someone should ask SE that in an interview lol

Next time I see an ad on TV for mobile phone games (which should be the next time I watch TV, damn things are everywhere) I think I'll read the small print about how much they cost and for how long. Keeping in mind it's episodic so people will keep subscribing to get the latest portion of the game and they could charge extra for that, plus they'd be cheaper to produce in the first place... they probably feel they could make more money this way; it certainly can't be for creative reasons or it would be on a console so the rest of the world could play it.

I not a mobile phone gamer.
but I can say it is more convenient rather then carry your PSP or DS.
(only if you have some special bag to carry the PSP or DS)
because you will always carry one every where to work or for class.
and the grafic of that game!!!
is it true, it look incredible for a mobile phone game!!
