Nomura to make 'New Series', not KH3?

US, April 2, 2007 - With Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix + Re: Chain of Memories at last out in Japan, Tetsuya Nomura and crew can now devote all their energy to their next project. And that appears to be another Kingdom Hearts game, or at least another tie-up with Disney. But is it Kingdom Hearts III?

Speaking with Japan's Gemaga and Dengeki PlayStation publications, Nomura gave a few hints on the new project, which he's previously hinted would see formal announcement later this year.

Gemaga asked if the characters who appear in the new CG "secret movie" that has been added to Final Mix are from the new title. "They are people who have some relation to the new series," said the producer. "However the next title won't just be Kingdom Hearts III. If it were III, we wouldn't call it a new series."

Asked if Sora and Riku would make an appearance in the new game, he said with a laugh, "I can't say." He also hinted that the new game would have something to do with Xehanort, the main villain of the Kingdom Hearts series.

He was just as direct when Dengeki PlayStation asked for some details on the new title. "First, it's not Kingdom Hearts III. Of course, because we're calling it a 'new' series, it won't be KHIII. Also, it's a series, so it probably won't be just one title."

Nomura once again promised an announcement of the new game, whatever it may be, some time this year. In the meanwhile, he suggested that players attempt to unlock the Final Mix secret movie and start imagining.

Sounds pretty interesting, particularly the bit about the new characters in the KH2:FM secret video. What will the new series be called? I'm thinking it could be something like Kingdom Hearts Legends or Keyblade Chronicles, something like that, maybe. Now if only Nomura would give us some more details about FFXIII and Versus....

so we've been mislead? not kHIII? at least the confirmation on this name wasn't official (I think) so we can start to conjure up some names for the new series.

but i have a feeling that some main characters from kh1+2 wont be making much of an appearance if any

I'm thinking this is mainly a way of moving the story away from Sora,Riku and Kairi without calling it KH3 and alienating the fans of those characters. It will probably share similar gameplay mechanics as the KH series but from the video I hope we can assume that it will have a darker, more intense storyline. The KH series already has dark themes and undercurrents but most people only ever see the Disney characters and just think the game is for little kids. Perhaps this will be a KH game for adults or others who are put off playing the main series because of all the Disney characters? Although Mickey features in the video, we don't know how big his role in the new game will be - it could be that the focus is on completely new characters.

The focus can't be completly on new characters. In that same video, Roxas made an appearance...quite a large one. And he's definetly not a new character. In fact...from the end of KH2 he shouldn't even be in this game...Sora and him became one again. Kinda makes you wonder what he's doing in the next game.

Nomura said in a previous interview that the 3 'knights' (for want of a better description) are new characters that have not been seen before, so that means it can't be Roxas in the video. It's just a character that bears a resemblance to Roxas in that he has blond hair and blue eyes, in the same way that a lot of Nomura's character designs have strong similarities to eachother.

It is possible however, that it could be some kind of ancestor or descendant of Roxas, depending on whether the video is set in the past or the future. The same goes for the bald man who wears the same clothes as Ansem/Xemnas (the enemy from KH1) - it probably isn't the same character, but there is bound to be some other deeper connection.

Maybe that Roxas look-alike in the secret movie has a link with the whole "Birth By Sleep" phrase? Just a thought.

if you saw the extended battle between riku and roxas, roxas said hes a whole person but riku says he is sora. maybe roxas is a different person in the secret ending other than sora's nobody...i am so confused.:P :P :P

hmmm........looking at the teaser one of the nights actually looks female. i can tell this by the amour shape and body

Either way, i don't think any series has really started/finished like this, i don't know of any series to be related so closely to start off a completely new story altogether. Well maybe there has, but i don't look around that much soo.....

Also i had a good looky at my videos i had stashed away, I watched KH Deep dive, ok none taken it was like what yonks ago this came out but i framed it down because of my boredness at the time, anyway.
